You can guidance or advice

Classic finance jargon but these words are chosen by the industry

Guidance

A qualified financial advisor will help you make better decisions so you can grow your long-term wealth. Think of them like a personal trainer for your finances.

Guidance is generally for people who are in the wealth-building phase of their lives - up to about 50 years old - and who have up to £250k in investable assets (everything but your property).

Your financial advisor would gather your financial information, arrange your planning session over a video call and build your plan.

You can get unlimited guidance from your advisor over email, phone etc. and you’ll get access to your forecasts which you can change whenever you want.

Advice

A few levels up from guidance. Rather than just helping you make better decisions, an advisor can recommend what they think you should do.

Advice can be more suitable than guidance if you’re approaching retirement, or if you have complex finances, or if you have more than £250k in investable assets (and don’t want to manage your money yourself).

The key benefit of getting advice (rather than guidance) is that an advisor can suggest specific products for you to invest in and they can manage your money, if you want.

The fee depends on the advisor and your circumstances but advice costs a lot more than guidance because the work is a lot more involved, in part thanks to the regulations.
